Sammuel “Sammy” Sanes
Democratic Candidate for Lt. Governor
Sammuel “Sammy” Sanes is a well-known and respected St. Croix Senator currently serving his fifth term in the Virgin Islands Legislature. Sammy Sanes is a Proud Crucian, who was raised on St. Croix, and graduated from St. Croix Central High School and was involved in several leadership organizations including the Boy Scouts, Sea Explorers, and the JROTC Program.
Just like his running mate for Governor Allison “Allie” Petrus, Senator Sanes knows what it means to come from humble and very modest beginnings, having grown up during the early years of his life in a two-bedroom shack with an outhouse. But Sammy Sanes also knows how to work hard to improve the lives of not only himself, and his family, but also others around him and how to make a better Virgin Islands for all around him.
Senator Sammuel Sanes is also a Proud Military Veteran, having joined the United States Navy after high school and after serving five years receiving an Honorable Discharge. Senator Sanes then furthered his education by earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration from Florida Memorial University. He also holds an Associate Degree in Legal Studies from Keiser College, and a Master’s Degree in Educational Counseling from the University of the Virgin Islands.
He worked as a Case Manager and Assistant Program Manager for Virgin Islands Behavioral Services, a 24-Hour crisis center for children with behavioral, emotional, and psychological issues. He was also the District Coordinator for the
Department of Labor, where he planned, implemented, and supervised all workforce development programs, services, and activities mandated by the Workforce Investment Act.
Since first being elected to the Virgin Islands Legislature in 2008, Sammy Sanes is currently serving his fifth term as a Senator from St. Croix where he has also served in leadership roles as Secretary, Majority Leader, and Vice President of the Legislature during those years and has been Voted as “Best Senator” for two consecutive years by the Virgin Islands Daily News.
Through it all, Family is what has been most important to Sammuel Sanes. His parents are Maria E. Sanes and the late Carmelo Sanes. He has been married to Michele Sanes for 15 years. They are the proud parents of two daughters, Layalie and Jamaris.
